Honoring the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Celine Paramundayil, a Medical Mission Sister representative to the UN joined hundreds of people who gathered at the UN on the 19th of November to honor the International day for the elimination of violence against women and girls. Though the UN observed it on this day, Women's rights activists have observed 25 November as a day against gender-based violence since 1981 and in 2000 the UN declared it the International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The 2018 theme is Orange the World: #HearMeToo.

Medical Mission sisters around the world have always and still contribute to promoting human rights especially in eliminating Violence against women and girls which is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today. According to the UN report, this violation remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it. There is a call to unite and end violence against women.
