Reaching out to flood affected areas

Medical Mission Sisters, Regy Peringarapilly, Dolores Kannampuzha and Mary Joseph Pullattu, visited some of the flood affected families in Kottayam and Alappuzha Districts of Kerala, South India. The sisters’ intention was to assess the situation and needs of people following the heavy downpour that led to flooding in July 2018.

As a first response, the sisters are engaged in reaching out by providing food materials and clean drinking water in collaboration with the parish and other NGOs. They are also planning to distribute the needed items like bed sheets, clothing, tooth pastes, towels and other necessary items sponsored by the people of good will. Eventually when the water lessens, they will need assistance in cleaning up water sources, reconstruction of destroyed houses, furniture and purchase of household items. They also see a need for text books and uniforms for the school children.
