Survival and Celebration

In Hajipur, India, as elsewhere, Covid 19 has disrupted the normal life of the people, especially children. Trafficking, child marriages, child labor are on the rise. Some children have to cook for the entire family as parents go out early in the mornings to search for food. As Medical Mission Sisters go about their lives and mission, they have been inspired by the generosity and creativity that ordinary people exhibit not only to survive but also to help others survive as well. Still Christmas was a day of joy. The children of the village eagerly prepared and awaited the Christmas celebration.  With great excitement they came in their best colorful dress, broad smiles, visited the crib and kissed the statue of the baby Jesus. The sisters were in tears seeing their innocence and love for the baby. A program was organized on the terrace and there was laughter and joy as the children danced to the music of Jingle Bells. Stories about the birth of Jesus and his miracles were told to the captive audience of children.
